What is ORLAC?

The Orthopaedic Research Laboratory Alumni Council (ORLAC) is a non-profit research foundation. The purpose of ORLAC is to nurture and organize the expertise of internationally diverse orthopaedic researchers and industrialists to promote and support the development of research, clinical practice, and entrepreneurial endeavors. Strong leadership and support of ORLAC's philosophy "Relentless Pursuit of Excellence," will enable ORLAC to grow into an internationally recognized entity.

history?

ORLAC was informally established by students (Thay Lee, PhD, Jennifer Wayne, PhD and Deidre MacKenna, PhD) of Dr. Savio L-Y Woo at the University of California, San Diego in the late 1980's to build networking amongst students, fellows and residents. Dr. Woo has produced a countless number of highly successful scientists, educators and business leaders through his mentoring in science but more importantly in scientific philosophy. ORLAC has enjoyed continued growth through the nineties and was formally incorporated as a non-profit foundation in 1996 by students and staff (Richard Debski, PhD, Ted Rudy, MA, Glen Livesay, PhD, Serena Chan Saw, MS and Jamie Pfaeffle, MD, PhD) of Dr. Woo at the University of Pittsburgh.

Goals of ORLAC

  • Promote and support the development of orthopaedic research, clinical practice, and entrepreneurial endeavors by becoming an internationally recognized charitable organization.
